EDMONTON – A member of Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s multiculturalism panel has resigned after the Opposition resurrected past antisemitic social media posts.

The NDP had asked Smith to remove Tariq Khan from the Premier’s Council on Multiculturalism.

The party provided screen grabs of a graphic antisemitic image shared under Khan’s name on Facebook as well as a 2018 letter rejecting him as a United Conservative Party nominee that references a video he shared labelling the Holocaust a hoax.

Smith’s office says Khan has offered his resignation and the premier has accepted it.

It says the premier denounces all forms of intolerance and hate.

Smith announced the council Friday to promote cultural diversity and inclusiveness in Alberta.
