OTTAWA — Canada’s Brad Gushue is moving on to the semifinals at the world men’s curling championship.

The St. John’s, N.L., skip beat Sweden’s Niklas Edin 9-1 in a qualification game at TD Place.

The Canadian team of Gushue, vice Mark Nichols, second E.J. Harnden and lead Geoff Walker will next play top-seeded Yannick Schwaller of Switzerland.

Scotland’s Bruce Mouat will play the winner of the qualification game between Norway’s Magnus Ramsfjell and Italy’s Joel Retornaz.

Semifinal winners will play for gold Sunday afternoon while the losing teams will play for bronze in the morning session.

Edin beat Gushue in last year’s final at Las Vegas.
