Medicine Hat and CUPE sign new collective agreement

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Seventy per cent of Medicine Hat city employees will be seeing an increase to their paycheque.

A new four-year collective agreement between the city and Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has been inked.

Under the agreement about 700 CUPE Local 46 city employees will see a general wage increase of $1.55.

In 2024 employees will receive a 2.5 per cent increase. That will grow by another 2.25 per cent increase in 2025 and a 2 per cent increase in 2026.

Mayor Linnsie Clark says the services provided by CUPE employees are invaluable to the community.

“CUPE represents about 700 city employees so that’s a huge percentage of our workforce,” says Clark.

“We really appreciate the work of CUPE and administration to engage in good faith bargaining over a period of time and it resulted in a fairly long-term agreement that will provide certainty for both parties until 2026,” adds Clark.

CUPE members held a ratification vote on the agreement on March 27.
