Canada’s 10th LDS temple to be built in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) is set to build several new temples across the globe.

On April 2, president and prophet Russell Nelson announced that 15 New Houses of the Lord will be constructed in the coming years.

A single Canadian city was on the list and Lethbridge will soon be home to a new temple.

This marks Canada’s 10th temple, with three others already located in Alberta; Cardston, Calgary and Edmonton.

Nearly an hour outside of Lethbridge, the Cardston Alberta Temple was originally announced in 1913, and was the first temple to be built in Canada and the first to be built outside of the United States.

“Jesus Christ is the reason we build temples,” said Nelson. “Each is His holy house. Making covenants and receiving essential ordinances in the temple, as well as seeking to draw closer to Him there, will bless your life in ways no other kind of worship can. For this reason, we are doing all within our power to make the blessings of the temple more accessible to our members around the world.”

According to The Church of Jesus Christ LDS, Canada is home to nearly 200,000 Latter-day Saints in around 500 congregations.

Other temple locations announced during the final session of the April 2023 general conference, include:

  • Retalhuleu, Guatemala
  • Iquitos, Peru
  • Teresina, Brazil
  • Natal, Brazil
  • Tuguegarao City, Philippines
  • Iloilo, Philippines
  • Jakarta, Indonesia
  • Hamburg, Germany
  • San Jose, California
  • Bakersfield, California
  • Springfield, Missouri
  • Winchester, Virginia
  • Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Details on when and where the Lethbridge Alberta Canada Temple will begin construction is unknown.
