VIDEO: Dismantling of Irvine playground begins
IRVINE, AB – Workers began dismantling the playground at Irvine’s Woodward Memorial Park on Friday, the latest step in the process of building a new community resource centre in the hamlet.
The new resource centre is a 3,600-square-foot facility that includes a library, board room, and upgraded outdoor playground and park space. The $1.5-million project is funded by the provincial Municipal Sustainability Initiative grant and set to be completed by the end of 2023.
It’s been a contentious issue in Cypress County. Council approved the location of the centre in February, about five years after consultations and planning began. Councillors say the location will help revitalize the hamlet’s downtown. Some residents have been vocal in their opposition to the location of the centre, who say a better location is near the Irvine Sports Complex.
