Pregame: Oil Kings at Tigers

Mar 22, 2023 | 3:16 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The playoff fate of the Medicine Hat Tigers will come down to the weekend series with the Swift Current Broncos. But the Tigers can get a stranglehold on a playoff spot tonight at home against the lowly Edmonton Oil Kings.

The Tabbies (28-28-8-1) are currently eighth in the Eastern Conference, one point up on the ninth-place Broncos. They are also one point back of the Calgary Hitmen in seventh.

Medicine Hat will look to sweep the six-game season series against the Oil Kings (9-51-4-0). On Friday in Edmonton, Dru Krebs scored three times in the third period of a 7-2 victory.

Oasiz Weisblatt’s 58 points lead the orange and black, with Andrew Basha and Brendan Lee close behind at 55 points. Rookie Gavin Hodnett leads the Oil Kings with 41 points.

A win tonight would give the Tigers a three-point cushion on the Broncos with both teams having just the two-game set this weekend – Friday in swift Current and Saturday in Medicine Hat – left.

If you can’t make it to Co-op Place tonight you can hear all the action live on Wild 94.5 with voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
