Spring cleaning? Here are tips from a professional cleaner

MEDICINE HAT, AB – It’s the first full day of spring, and so many people will soon feel the need to clean.

Spring cleaning can feel like a chore, and just another thing to cross off the list. But cleaning proves to have benefits for both the mind and body.

A local cleaning company shared some cleaning tips to make sure those forgotten spots are getting attention this spring.

With furnaces dusting up the house during the winter, Jackson Marschel-Chan, the manager of Fine Details Cleaning, says it’s important to prioritize baseboards and ceilings. Dust also builds up, in surprising amounts, under the furniture, dressers, desks and couches.

He says a simple feather duster works great for dusting, but sometimes a little product is necessary for those build-up areas. For areas with grease or oil build-up from touching, a simple water and dish soap solution can help cut through. But he says people can use the products they prefer.

As for tools, an extendable duster can help with harder to reach areas, especially if a person isn’t comfortable using a ladder or fears breaking something.

Marschel-Chan says finding motivation for a deep clean can be hard, but thinking about it differently helps get the process started.

“Some people are busy in their day to day lives, so for some cleanings I would say it’s meditative. Just taking some time out of their day and focusing on one thing, instead of how we have everyday lives, where we’re always busy, just focusing on one thing and sort of slowing down,” said Marschel-Chan.

Once the weather warms up, he says it’s also a good time to tackle the outside windows, considering windows are often left in grime from the snow and melting cycle.
