Pregame: Three-game weekend for Tigers as playoff race heats up

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers have three games in three days and a chance to strengthen their hold on a playoff spot this weekend.

The seventh-place Tigers (27-26-8-1) face the Edmonton Oil Kings in the capital city tonight. The Tigers are 4-0 against the Oil Kings (9-49-4-0) this season, most recently winning 5-2 in Medicine Hat on March 3.

Oasiz Wiesblatt and Andrew Basha each have five points against Edmonton this season. Beckett Langkow has backstopped the Tigers to three wins over the Oil Kings with a 1.67 goals against average and .930 save percentage.

Weisblatt’s 57 points and Basha’s 55 points lead the Tabbies on the season. Basha is coming off a four-goal game in the Tigers’ last game against the Regina Pats.

On Saturday at home and Sunday on the road, the Tigers will faceoff with the Calgary Hitmen who they currently hold a one-point lead over in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Tigers and Hitmen have split four games so far this season, winning the last two.

The Hitmen hold down the eighth and final playoff spot heading into the weekend and are two points up on the Swift Current Broncos and Brandon Wheat Kings.
