MEDICINE HAT, AB – First love doesn’t always have a smooth ending, a night of three firsts did for the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday.

The Tigers feasted on the Regina Pats in a 7-0 victory, and accolades came like a trip to an all you can eat buffet.

Andrew Basha led Medicine Hat to the victory by recording four goals in his first WHL game with a hat trick.

“It was amazing,” said Basha, post-game. “It was special and I had my parents in the crowd as well, so, it was a good night.”

Moments later, Gavin McKenna got in on the action with his first career WHL goal. McKenna fired a wrist shot past the blocker of Regina goaltender Drew Sim and received a thunderous applause from the 6,405 strong in attendance at Co-op Place.

“Unreal feeling,” said McKenna, post-game. “I had a couple chances and finally buried that first one.”

To cap off the night of milestones, Tigers goalie Beckett Langkow turned aside 17 shots to earn his first career WHL shutout.

“It’s pretty special,” said Langkow, post-game. “Not only that, we got the win and it was a big win in front of a big crowd.”

The Tigers look to build on the momentum when they play three games this weekend, starting in Edmonton against the Oil Kings on Friday.
