Council to revisit outdoor smoking bylaw at regular meeting

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A revised version of the new smoke free outdoor public places bylaw will be presented to city council at tonight’s regular meeting.

The revisions come after council requested more clarity on the new outdoor smoking bylaw at their February 21 regular meeting.

Some members of council were concerned the proposed new bylaw oversteps provincial legislation surrounding outdoor smoking regulations.

Also tonight council will look to approve a bylaw that will allow the municipality to borrow almost $97 million to fund future capital projects.

The bylaw states the City of Medicine Hat will pay back the debt over a 25 year period.

As of December 31, 2022 the principal amount of outstanding debt is just over $418 million.
