Tigers earn third win in last four

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Tyler Mackenzie and Beckett Langkow led the Medicine Hat Tigers to a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday night.

Mackenzie potted a short-handed goal and a pair of assists, Langkow made 25 saves on 27 shots. Mackenzie’s short-haded goal came with 6:56 left in the first period, it was his 17th goal of the year.

With the victory, the Tigers improve their record to 26-24-8-1, the Oil Kings fall to 8-47-3-0. Medicine Hat remains in seventh in the Eastern Conference, inside a playoff spot, Edmonton stays at the bottom of the WHL standings.

Edmonton scored a pair of third period goals to make the more respectable, however, the damage was already done. Rhys Pedersen got his team on the board with his first career Western Hockey League goal, Mason Finley scored his 10th of the season.

After giving up four consecutive goals in the first two periods, there was no coming back for the Oil Kings.

Medicine Hat has earned wins in three of their last four, Edmonton has lost ten straight. The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday in Winnipeg against the Ice, the Oil Kings return home to take on the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday. The teams will meet again at Rogers Place on Friday, March 17.
