Alberta RCMP to focus on seat belt usage in March

RCMP across Alberta will be focusing on seat belt usage during the month of March.

Alberta RCMP Traffic Inspector Chris Romanchych says you should always make a habit of fastening your seat belt as soon as you enter a vehicle.

They add that using safety restraints whie driving can be the difference between life and death if you are involved in a motor vehicle collision.

Motorists are responsible for making sure themselves and any passenger under the age of 16 sre wearing proper seat belts or occupant restraints.

Failing to do so could result in a fine of $162 if they or any passengers under the age of 16 are not seat belted.

Passengers 16 or older could also be fined if they are not wearing a seat belt.

Last year, RCMP across the province handed out 3,993 seat belt infraction tickets.
