NDP leader says Alberta budget a sham

Mar 1, 2023 | 12:36 PM

The Alberta government’s projected $2.4-billion surplus budget is getting mixed reviews.

Opposition NDP Leader Rachel Notley calls it a sham budget of false promises, cynical policy reversals and hidden agendas.

She says previously announced inflation-fighting measures will end shortly after the expected May provincial election.

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees says increased spending on public services doesn’t make up for budget cuts made in 2019.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business says it was hoping for a cut in the small business tax rate, but the budget on the whole keeps the province on a growth-oriented, fiscally prudent track.
