LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service is searching for a man who police say is wanted in connection to a series of sexual assaults that reportedly occurred in the 1980s.

Police say a woman reported that she had been sexually assaulted on numerous occasions by her psychiatrist between 1981 and 1983. They allege the sexual assaults reportedly occurred while the psychiatrist was treating the patient and after she had moved into his family home.

At the time of the alleged offences, the woman was 21 years old and the suspect was 36.

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Duane Bevans, 77, of Provo, Utah.

Lethridge police say in a news release, “The warrant for Bevans’ arrest does not include provisions for extradition. Determining whether an individual facing criminal charges who [resides] outside Canada will be extradited, is within the jurisdiction of the courts, not police.”

The police service adds, “Should Bevans attempt to enter Canada, he will be arrested.”

Police were not able to provide photos or descriptions of the suspect.
