Pregame: Blazers at Tigers

Feb 25, 2023 | 9:24 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers welcome the hottest team in the Western Hockey League tonight for the first and only meeting of the season between the two teams.

The Kamloops Blazers have won 11 in a row, last night beating the Lethbridge Hurricanes 6-2.

The Tigers (23-23-8-1) haven’t been as hot as the Blazers but have picked up points in eight of their last 10 games. The Tigers are fourth in the Central Division and in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Brendan Lee’s 24 goals and Andrew Basha’s 35 assists lead the Tigers, while Oasiz Weisblatt is the top point-getter with 49 on 21 goals and 28 assists..

On the other side, Logan Stankoven is the leader across the board for the Blazers with 29 goals and 55 assists for 84 points.

Former Tigers head coach and GM Shaun Clouston holds the same positions for the Blazers (38-10-4-2). They’ve already clinched a playoff spot and are first in the B.C. Division and second in the Western Conference.

Tonight’s game begins a four-game homestand for the Tigers. They’ll host Swift Current, Winnipeg and Edmonton in the next week.

If you can’t make it to Co-op Place tonight you can hear all the action live on Wild 94.5 with voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.

New jerseys

The Tabbies will be sporting a new look against the Blazers, wearing a custom-made jersey designed by a fan.

Hunter St. Martin modelled the new look on Friday.

Maddyson Rieger showed her design to the team earlier this week and received a Dallon Melin jersey signed by the entire team before giving them a loud “Go, Tigers, Go.”
