Warnings abound as winter returns (Environment Canada map)
Low pressure system in Montana brings lots of snow

Winter returns to southern Alberta

Feb 21, 2023 | 5:01 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Winter has returned, and Environment Canada has issued winter storm and snowfall warnings for all of southern Alberta, and into the extreme southwestern corner of Saskatchewan.

The snow is a product of a low pressure system that moved in from Montana Sunday evening.

A long duration winter storm with heavy snow and blowing snow will continue today.

Total amounts of 15 to 30 cm are expected by this evening for the Medicine Hat-Bow Island-Suffield forecast regions.

Poor visibility due to blowing snow is also likely this morning.

Conditions will gradually improve this evening.

Environment Canada suggests motorists consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
