Canada’s Jonathan David scores for Lille but Mbappe, Messi inspire PSG to 4-3 comeback win
PARIS (CP-AP) — Canadian international Jonathan David scored his 15th goal of the season for Lille to move into a tie for the scoring lead in France, albeit in a 4-3 loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.
The 23-year-old from Ottawa beat PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from the penalty spot in the 57th minute to tie the game 2-2. David, who has 22 goals in 38 appearances for Canada, is tied with Reims’ Folarin Balogun in the Ligue 1 scoring race.
Paris Saint-Germain carried the day, however with a late rally to avert a major crisis at the Qatari-backed, which was facing the possibility of a fourth consecutive loss.
The French league leaders gave away a two-goal lead and found themselves one down in the 86th minute before Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi turned things around to transform a fiasco in the making into the 4-3 victory.
