Pool closure at Big Marble Go Centre extended

The pool is closed due to mechanical issues with the leisure pool that crews are working to fix as quickly as possible. The issue was with the piping between the pool and surge tanks and the pool ended up having to be drained to make the repair. The City of Medicine Hat recreation manager says after that comes refilling the pool with 450,000 litres of water

“The draining of the pool takes a good half day if not longer; The repair took actually not a long period of time but once the repair’s completed it does need to set to ensure that once we put water to it again that the same issue will not occur,” explains Lisa Kennedy, . “So all of that is a process. the filling takes quite a bit of time as well running the filtration pumps is a few days. It’s usually about three days minimum to warm it up, test it, provide the samples to AHS in terms of meeting the guidelines for pool operation.”

Family Day Fest will go ahead as planned with the lane swim pool, dive tank, waterslide and hot tub open for public use, according to the latest update. As well, all Aquafit and regularly scheduled programs that do not require the leisure pool will continue without interruption.

Swimming lessons were cancelled this week due to the closure. There are no swimming lessons scheduled for next week.
