TREX Southeast exhibition calling for artwork

Feb 9, 2023 | 5:12 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – If you’ve ever wanted to have your work on display, the TREX Southeast exhibition is calling for artwork from southeastern artists.

The call is in part of the Travelling Exhibition Program, which is supported by the Alberta Foundation for Arts.

Genevieve Farrell, the Travelling Exhibition Program Manager, says artists can submit a variety of art forms, including canvases, fibre, sculptures, metal, ice sculptors, digital imaging and videos.

“We’re looking for any genre, any medium of art, just if you are an artist who is creating, we want to hear you,” said Farrell.

The selected works will be exhibited for two and a half years in communities across Alberta, some including Bodo, Hanna and Lethbridge. Each exhibition, which includes 15 to 20 artworks, and they are displayed in libraries, high schools, and community and senior centres.

“We want to know what’s going on in the small towns or in the country side or in the smaller centres like Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Brooks,” she said.

The exhibition program is intended to give Albertans a chance to enjoy local artwork, and it is a paid opportunity for artists to showcase their work.

“But also it is just great for all our communities to see what’s being made in our province, and it can be very inspiring for them and maybe like trigger new art practice for the kids who see the work or seniors who see the work – just anybody,” said Farrell.

The deadline to apply is March 1 at midnight. Artists must be from southeastern Alberta.
