Walk-ins offered at Animal Medical Centre South

Feb 6, 2023 | 5:03 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A walk-in service for animals is now being offered to the community.

Starting Feb. 2, your pet or animal can be treated at the Animal Medical Centre South without an appointment on Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

During this time, animals can be treated for any emergencies, including ear infections, breathing difficulties, inoculations and bladder infections.

The service is in response to a growing number of patients in need of care.

“Since COVID, vet clinics have been very busy, so there is a little more of a wait to get into an appointment – it may take a couple of days,” said Samantha Lole, a registered lab technician from the south animal centre.

Lole says preference will be given to some animals at times, if necessary.

“It will be a little bit of a triage system, when you go to the doctor at the hospital. Obviously if you bring your animal in, and it’s bleeding, we’re going to look at that sooner than something that may be an ear infection – that can wait for a little bit,” said Lole.

She assures though, “We’ll try to get everybody seen, as much as we can in that time frame.”

“I don’t think any other clinic in town is offering walk-in services right now, so we thought doing something like a walk-in service would benefit the community and pet parents who are concerned about their pets,” said Lole.

“If things get really busy, we might look at opening up another day. But right now we’re just doing the Thursday and testing it out if it’s a thing that the community can benefit from,” she said.
