Outdoor smoking bylaw on tonight’s city council agenda

Feb 6, 2023 | 3:43 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Tonight Medicine Hat city council will meet for its regular scheduled meeting with outdoor smoking on the agenda.

A new bylaw aimed to limit outdoor smoking and vaping will receive its first reading tonight.

The proposed bylaw will expand the coverage of public spaces around the city, parks and public events. It will look at the creation of temporary designated smoking areas in outdoor public spaces.

Information on electric utility rates will also be provided to council.

Since our city generates its own electricity, a request has been made by city administration to conduct a utility rate review.

Council is also expected to approve a new framework to improve the way community grants are accepted and approved.

As well, the new city manager will begin her role. Ann Mitchell takes over for Dr. Glenn Feltham, who held the temporary position since June 2022.

Mitchell comes to Medicine Hat after serving as chief administrative officer of Lethbridge County since 2018.
