City bringing in service rig for abandoned gas well
MEDICINE HAT, AB – Work will resume Tuesday on an abandoned gas well along a well-travelled road in the city’s south.
In early 2021, the City of Medicine Hat tried to service the well in the back parking lot of the Medicine Hat Toyota property on Strachan Road SE using smaller, less-intrusive equipment like coil tubing and wireline units. The now says a service rig is now required to address a non-typical sweet shallow gas downhole abandonment.
Large equipment will be visible along 13 Avenue SE and Strachan Road SE starting Tuesday. There will also be a temporary increase in noise during the day, the city says. This operation is expected to take five or more days.
The work presents no anticipated danger to residents aside from proximity to heavy equipment. Temporary fencing will be erected around the worksite and security will be on site.
