Redcliff business leaders looking to build association, strengthen local economy

REDCLIFF, AB – Redcliff business owners and operators gathered for a town hall meeting that focused on the development of a local business association.

The aim of the proposed association is to help local businesses and industries connect with each other, problem solve and collaborate.

By forming groups and brainstorming ideas these business leaders in Redcliff have come together to build prosperity within the community.

This is the second town hall held by the Redcliff and the Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce following a desire to form a business association to support local businesses.

“It’s for the same purpose: building community, that sense of community, creating that network, allowing opportunity for them to connect with each other as Redcliff businesses to talk about challenges, solve problems together, troubleshoot and also look at opportunities moving forward,” said Lisa Kowalchuk, executive director, Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce.

Those attending represented 26 local businesses and companies in Redcliff.

“It’s really neat the kinds of businesses we have out here in our little community and how they can all partnership and how we can all grow our little town together and promote our community values,” said Brian Stehr planning development officer, Town of Redcliff.

Working in small groups the thinktank discussed challenges many local businesses are dealing with.

And by working together and sharing ideas and resources they hope to overcome those challenges and create a thriving business community.

“Working together to bring people to Redcliff and to develop attractions and just have something for everyone here,” said Colleen Rompain, with Redcliff Family Dental.

“If you build the community then you’ll get the business to come and support the community. So better leisure centres, better trails, better life standards,” said Randy McMullen, owner of Twist & Flip Gymnastics.

The collective also focused on improving town events like Redcliff Days and adding more community events to bring people together.

The next town hall is slated for March.
