NDP government would scrap Smith’s COVID-19 review panel: Notley

Jan 25, 2023 | 12:48 PM

EDMONTON – Alberta Opposition Leader Rachel Notley says if her NDP wins the spring election, it would scrap a COVID-19 review panel led by former Reform Party leader Preston Manning.

Notley says Premier Danielle Smith should be focused on helping Alberta families struggling with inflation rather than paying Manning a quarter-million dollars for the review.

Notley says that given Manning’s previous comments, he doesn’t have the objectivity or expertise for the job.

Smith announced the panel last week, setting the budget at $2 million, with $253,000 of that going to Manning.

Smith says she picked Manning because he has the stature and has been trying to organize a national panel on COVID.

Manning has said federal COVID measures caused widespread harm to Canadians and need to be investigated.
