LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Lethbridge-based cheerleading squad has earned a sport to showcase their talents in front of the world.

Peak Elite Cheerleading’s open age non-tumbling team, Everest, won a bid to compete at the World Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Florida April 19 to 21, 2023. The local team will show off their abilities in front of thousands at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Everest was awarded an At Large Bid at the Cold Snap Competition in Edmonton on Sunday. The Edmonton event brings in teams from across Western Canada, vying for a spot at Worlds.

Head coach and Peak Elite Cheerleading owner, Samantha Paradee praised the team’s hard work.

Paradee stated, “I told them eight to 10 years ago, as young athletes in my program, that if they are patient and progress safely through the levels, that I will match them every step of the way in my own education and development, and get them to Worlds without leaving home.”

“I push them to be better in so many ways, but it is them that have always pushed me to be stronger in pursuit of achieving their dreams. I got to keep my promise this weekend and it’s the best feeling ever.”

The team now heads into a busy competition season before making the trip to the United States in April. Up next is the Imagine Cheer and Dance Championships in Calgary on Feb. 4 and 5.
