Medicine Hat Softball Association to start the baseball season with a pledge

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Softball registration recently opened to Medicine Hat youth for games in 2023, and the Medicine Hat Softball Association is starting the baseball season with a pledge.

The pledge, called the Responsible Coaching Movement, ensures coaches protect young athletes and gives them a safe sport environment to play in.

The program focuses on three areas:

• A commitment to talking with athletes with at least two adults in the room,
• A commitment to background screening, and
• Training for how to make ethical decisions.

Josh Hudson, the association’s Vice President of Operations, says they have followed these guidelines for years, but the program helps fill in any gaps they may have missed.

“We’re constantly looking at ways to improve the environment in regards to coaching and the athletes that we coach…It shows we are committed and we care about the kids,” he said.
