Tigers fall behind early in loss to Broncos

Jan 11, 2023 | 10:43 AM

SWIFT CURRENT, SK – The third time was not the charm for the Medicine Hat Tigers when it comes to the Swift Current Broncos.

The teams met for the third time in 11 days on Tuesday. The Tigers lost 3-1, their third straight loss to the Broncos.

The Tigers fell behind just 91 seconds into the game. Broncos forward Josh Filmon scored his team-leading 25th goal of the season to open the scoring. Before the period was out Braeden Lewis scored to double the Broncos’ lead.

Luke Mistelbacher put Swift Current up by three at the 3:12 mark of the second, chasing Tigers’ starter Beckett Langkow from the net after allowing three goals on just 14 shots.

Shane Smith put one past Swift Current’s Joey Rocha during a scramble in front of the net in the third to pull the Tigers within two, but that was all the scoring they could muster.

Evan May turned aside all 20 shots he faced in relief.

The Tigers head to Manitoba this weekend to play the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday and the Winnipeg Ice on Saturday.

You can hear all the action live on Wild 94.5 with voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli.
