MHC inviting nominations for this year’s honorary applied degree

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Nominations are now being accepted for Medicine Hat College’s 2023 honorary applied degree.

The college seeks to recognize the vision, passion and accomplishment of a community-minded individual.

“The passion and commitment of individuals is evident across our region and Medicine Hat College is proud to recognize the contributions of those who help better our communities in so many ways,” says Kevin Shufflebotham, president of MHC, says in a news release. “We appreciate those who take time to nominate deserving individuals through this process and look forward to celebrating our next honorary degree recipient.”

The recipient will be acknowledged for their achievement and distinction in activities that align with the vision of MHC, including scholarship, the advancement of learning, welfare and social responsibility, creativity and innovation, enterprise and public service.

Everyone in the community is invited to submit a nomination prior to the Jan. 31 deadline. All submissions are confidential.

The selected candidate will be celebrated at MHC’s annual convocation ceremony on June 9.

Elder Charlie Fox of the Kainai Nations Sacred Horn Society and member of the Blood Tribe, a First Nations Band Government serving southern Alberta, was the 2022 recipient. The college says Elder Fox has been an integral part of MHC’s efforts to develop Indigenous-focused strategies that will support the institution’s capacity for understanding, education and growth.

Gerry Labas, David J. Carter, Parvin Camphor, Lorne Taylor, Bill Yuill, Dr. Larry Henderson, Rob Renner, Dr. Roy Wilson, Dr. Richard and Deborah Northcott, Bob Porter, Dr. John Moldon, Dr. Ken Sauer, Jim Horsman and Randy Eresman and Terry Brekko are all previous recipients of the honorary applied degree, the first of which was awarded to Brekko in 2005.
