Nominations open for the 2023 Alberta Order of Excellence

Jan 8, 2023 | 12:00 PM

It’s a high honour to be nominated for the Alberta Order of Excellence, let alone accept one.

The prestigious award was created back in 1979 as a way to recognize select Albertans for their remarkable contributions to their community and province.

Member impact ranges from medicine, journalism, agriculture, science, education, arts, politics, business and more.

Albertans from all backgrounds and endeavors are eligible for the title, but first must be nominated by a peer, co-worker, or bystander.

People cannot nominate themselves, their spouse or a member of their immediate family.

While nominations are accepted all year-round, those wanting to make the cut for 2023 must have them submitted by February 15, 2023.

Up to 10 people will be inducted into the Order this year, but nominations not selected in 2023 will still be up for consideration for the following three years.

Nominees must be Canadian citizens residing in Alberta, and if selected, must be able to attend the investiture ceremony at the Government House in Edmonton.

The Alberta Order of Excellence is on the Canadian Honours Order of Precedence, meaning its members are entitled to wear the insignia as approved by the Governor of General of Canada.

Those looking to nominate someone special for the Alberta Order of Excellence can do so on the Alberta Government website.
