MEDICINE HAT, AB – A high risk offender who committed crimes between 2008 and 2011 in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan has been released from jail.

In the interest of public safety, the Calgary Police Service is releasing information and a warning in regard to 43-year-old Shaun Gerard Desruisseaux.

Calgary police say Desruisseaux was released in Calgary today, Thursday, Jan. 5. He has served two-thirds of a fifteen-year sentence for a series of sexual assaults on strangers.

The decision to issue the information and warning came after careful deliberation and consideration of all related issues, including privacy concerns. In the end, Calgary Police determined that is clearly in the public interest to inform members of the public about Desruisseaux’s release.

Desruisseaux targeted women, as well as a teenager, that were all unknown to him.

He is currently subject to Statutory Release conditions and will be supervised by Correctional Services Canada (CSC).

He is described as five-foot-11, 235 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair.

Members of the public are advised that the intent of the process is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action.
