Tigers win 3-2 in Prince Albert

Dec 15, 2022 | 10:05 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers are returning from a two-game road trip with a little more in column A and a little more in column B.

In other words, one win and one loss following a 3-2 Tigers win over the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday evening. The Tigers were dumped 8-3 by the Saskatoon Blades the night before.

Shane Smith played the hero in Prince Albert, scoring at 16:29 of the third period. It looked like an insurance goal for a few minutes, becoming the eventual game-winner when the Raiders’ Sloan Stanick scored with the extra attacker on the ice in the final minute.

The Tabbies got off to a hot start thanks to Tomas Mrsic and Dalton Melin, who scored at 5:02 and 5:29 of the first period to stake them to a 2-0 lead. Cole Peardon scored late in the opening frame for the Raiders to cut the lead to 2-1

The .500 trip leaves the Tigers at 12-16-4-1, holding down fourth spot in the Central Division and eighth in the Eastern Conference.

The Tigers welcome the Red Deer Rebels to Co-op Place on Friday and the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday to finish the pre-Christmas schedule.
