MEDICINE HAT, AB – A Medicine Hat man has been charged and several stolen vehicles have been recovered after an ALERT investigation this month.

ALERT Medicine Hat’s regional property crime unit began an investigation into a rash of regional vehicle thefts in early December, according to ALERT.

Police say that on Dec. 7 officers saw a man exiting a 2002 Ford pickup truck that had been reported stolen earlier in the day from Redcliff, Alta. Further investigation led to the recovery of a stolen Suzuki dirt bike, stolen recreational vehicles and a stolen enclosed trailer. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at $58,000.

“Our regional property crime unit works hard to arrest and charge prolific property offenders. With this latest seizure, we are now working to ensure everything is returned to its rightful owners,” says ALERT Medicine Hat Staff Sgt. Ryan Thorburn.

Jeffrey Lawless, 37, is facing stolen property charges, as well as breach of probation. He has been released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 19, 2023.

Members of the Medicine Hat Police Service and Redcliff RCMP were part of the investigation.
