The number of Albertans in hospital with COVID-19 has fallen below 1,000 for the first time in more than two months.

The province posted its weekly update on Wednesday. There are 992 Albertans currently hospitalized with COVID-19, and 32 of those people are in ICU. Last week those numbers were 1,042 and 38.

There were 1,045 new cases in Alberta over the past seven days, down from 1,147 the previous period, and 46 deaths, the same number as in the last reporting period.

The seven-day new case rate in the zone of 28.3 new cases per 100,000 people is above the provincial average of 23.7.

There have been 40,574 total COVID-19 cases in the zone since the start of the pandemic, and 485 deaths, up five from the previous update.

Vaccination statistics for Medicine Hat show 79.3 per cent of all people have received one dose, 75.9 per cent have received two doses and 38.4 per cent have received three doses.
