Lt.-Gov. Lakhani hosting first New Year’s Levee

Dec 12, 2022 | 5:01 PM

Officials with the Alberta government say Lieutenant Governor Salma Lakhani will host the first New Year’s Day Levee of her tenure at historic Government House in Edmonton on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023.

The event was not held in the previous two years due to the pandemic.

“I am very excited to resume this time-honoured tradition. Everyone is welcome to attend and my husband, Zaheer, and I are looking forward to meeting people and sharing best wishes for a wonderful 2023!” says Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani.

The levee takes place from 12-3 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. For the first time, guests will have the ability to register for tickets on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/449593936567. While pre-registration is not necessary, officials say it is highly recommended to ensure that everyone can be accommodated.

Guests will be able to take in the beautiful art and displays throughout Government House, meet and have a photo taken with the Lieutenant Governor, and enjoy live music and festive treats. There will also be an opportunity to write postcards of support for members of the Canadian Armed Forces currently serving overseas. The Lieutenant Governor and Dr. Lakhani will be joined in the receiving line by members of the Vice-Regal Escort.

The levee is an open-house style event and suitable for all ages. Free, limited on-site parking will be available. Government House is wheelchair accessible from the west side of the building. General questions about the event can be directed to ltgov@gov.ab.ca.
