New cases down in Alberta’s weekly COVID-19 update

New COVID-19 cases in Alberta are down in the province’s latest update, with inpatients counts remaining relatively flat.

The province posted its weekly update on Wednesday.

There were 1,147 new cases in Alberta over the past seven days, down from 1,314 the previous period, and 46 deaths, up from 39.

There are 1,042 Albertans currently hospitalized with COVID-19, and 38 of those people are in ICU. Last week those numbers were 1,077 and 46.

The province’s COVID-19 dashboard is now showing only zone statistics instead of by municipality. There were 71 new cases in the South Zone in the past seven days, down one from 72 in the previous period.

The seven-day new case rate in the zone of 22.8 new cases per 100,000 people is below the provincial average of 26.

There have been 40,485 total COVID-19 cases in the zone since the start of the pandemic, and 479 deaths, up five from the previous update.

Vaccination statistics for Medicine Hat show 79.3 per cent of all people have received one dose, 75.9 per cent have received two doses and 38.3 per cent have received three doses.
