Last straw: RCMP warning about online hay and straw scam

REDCLIFF, AB – It’s hard to say which report of the latest online scam was the last straw for RCMP in Redcliff.

Mounties have issued a warning after numerous reports of fraudulent sales of hay and straw bales on Facebook since October.

A seller posting by the name of ‘Maxwel Jakes’ will suggest that hay and straw bales are available for purchase in the Cypress County and Medicine Hat areas, say RCMP. Payment is then made by the buyer via e-transfer however, no hay or straw is ever received.

Police are advising people to use caution if buying hay or straw online.
