United Way gift wrap booth ready to go for another season

MEDICINE HAT — A Christmas tradition has returned for another holiday season, as the United Way gift wrap booth is up and running again at the Medicine Hat Mall.

It’s been a slow start for the service this week, but United Way executive director Missy Fandrick says that’s normal, as people don’t really get into shopping and wrapping gifts until later in December, with the last week before Christmas always the busiest time.

Fandrick says people have responded to the call for help, and they have more than enough people to cover their shifts, which correspond with the store hours in the mall.

The gift wrap booth represents one of the biggest events for the United Way each year.

“This is our second biggest fundraiser that we hold in the year. The first one being the golf tournament and that raises anywhere between $60,000 and $80,000 , and this one is typically around the $10,000 mark,” says Fandrick.

The average price to wrap a gift is between $7 and $8 , something Fandrick says has remained constant for at least the last decade.

The booth can be found in the Bay wing of the Medicine Hat Mall, in a store front next to Bluenotes.
