Pregame: Tigers at Oil Kings

Dec 6, 2022 | 3:30 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers (9-13-4-1) are back on the road for a three-game swing across the province, starting tonight against the lowly Edmonton Oil Kings (4-22-1).

This is only the second of six total meetings between the Tabbies and the provincial capital contingent. The Tigers won their first matchup back on Nov. 23 by a score of 6-1 at Co-op Place. Six different players scored for the home side in that game, and goaltender Beckett Langkow stood tall making 25 saves in the rout.

The Tigers are hoping to recreate that magic after falling 2-1 against the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday. The annual Teddy Bear Toss took place during the game, and the team’s leadership group was able to deliver the stuffed toys to children at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, bringing them smiles and brightening their days.

Medicine Hat has a favourable record against Edmonton in the past, particularly on the road. The Tigers hold a record of 25-18-1-3 against the Oil Kings when they play them away from home.

The Tigers’ Andrew Basha continues to lead the way in points for the team, potting 28 points over 26 games, including 21 helpers. A victory tonight would also mean win number 399 for head coach Willie Desjardins as Tigers bench boss.

The struggling Oil Kings are led by Gavin Hodnett with five goals and 10 assists.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. from Rogers Place and you can hear all the action live on Wild 94.5 with voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli.
