Local doctor sanctioned by the College of Physicians and Surgeons

Medicine Hat, AB–A Medicine Hat Doctor has been sanctioned by a College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta Tribunal after being found guilty of unprofessional conduct.
The Tribunal agreed that Dr. Gaylord Wardell was not fully compliant with the standard for prescribing cannabis for pain management. Charges pertaining to other standards were found unproven and dismissed.
Wardell received a reprimand and his authorizations for cannabis for medical purposes will be monitored quarterly for a 12 month period.
He is also responsible for 20% of the costs of the investigation and hearing.
