MEDICINE HAT, AB – A local woman and her dog have been reunited after the dog was taken during an auto theft.

According to Medicine Hat Police Service, the dog was inside the woman’s car when it was stolen near the three-way intersection where Kingsway Avenue meets South Railway Street.

Police say a short time later officers located and attempted to stop the vehicle but were unsuccessful. They were able to track the vehicle and it was located again at a rural location in Saskatchewan.

Two men were taken into custody without incident and the dog was located unharmed in the vehicle. The owner has since been reunited with her furry friend.

MHPS reminds drivers to never leave vehicles running and unlocked as it only takes seconds for opportunistic criminals to take advantage, and, particularly during this holiday shopping season, to secure all property and leave valuables out of sight.
