MEDICINE HAT, AB – Players from all over Alberta and into Saskatchewan are taking to the ice in Medicine Hat this week for the Ed Horvath Interprovincial Ringette Tournament.

Games got underway Friday morning at the Moose Recreation Centre and the Kinplex and championship games are set for Sunday.

Tournament co-coordinator Jason Tindall says 29 teams in all are in our city for the tournament participating in six divisions for all ages, all the way from an adult open division down to six-year-olds.

Tindall says a major tournament like the Ed Horvath is a great way to grow ringette in the city and for kids and parents to be exposed to the sport. He says Medicine Hat Ringette Association has 130 registrants this year.

“Our younger divisions are growing every year, we’ve got three teams in the U10 up from one team last year, we’ve got a strong Active Start program that is being built with a good pipeline,” he says. “Parents are seeing value growing in the game, especially with girls being in sports, they’re also noticing there’s another sport out there for them or another activity during the winter months.”

Tindall calls Ed Horvath “basically one of the founding fathers of ringette in Medicine Hat.”
