Three people charged following traffic stop

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Three people from Medicine Hat are facing charges following a recent traffic stop.

On Nov. 25, around 4 a.m., members of the Medicine Hat Police Service conducted a traffic stop for a moving infraction.

The three people inside the vehicle attempted to flee from police but were not successful.

An ensuing roadside investigation revealed edged weapons in plain sight inside the vehicle. A further search resulted in the discovery of two swords, a hatchet, a taser, almost 60 grams of fentanyl, and 227 grams of methamphetamine.

The driver of the vehicle was out on pre-trial release conditions.

The three people who range in age from 29 to 40 years old are facing a range of charges including possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

One of the accused remains in custody while the other two have been released.

All three are scheduled to be back in court on Dec. 13.
