Holding down a playoff spot

Playing the full 60 key to improved record for Tigers: Frazer

Nov 24, 2022 | 3:36 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers have had some ups and downs throughout the first 22 games of the season, but sit in a competitive position.

At this point last year the Tabbies held a record of 4-14-3-1, but have improved upon that this year with a current record of 7-10-4-1.

Currently sitting eighth in the Eastern Conference, the Tigers hold a playoff position and are only a single point back of the Regina Pats.

The season has not only been an improvement for the team, but for some individuals as well. Players like Andrew Basha, and Brendan Lee have already surpassed their season point totals from last year.

Basha has 24 points in only 22 games this season, a big increase from the 14 points in 48 games in 2021-22.

Through his time in both Saskatoon and Medicine Hat, Lee had 22 points in 52 games played last year. He’s matched that total already this season while also leading the entire Canadian Hockey League in powerplay goals.

Tigers starting goaltender Beckett Langkow deserves recognition as well. The 19-year-old netminder played in 25 games last year, and only managed three wins. This season has played in 18 games, and more than doubled last season’s total currently sitting at 7 wins.

Associate coach Joe Frazer says the main thing that he has seen change for his team from game one to now is their ability to play an entire 60 minutes.

“I think we have come a long ways,” he says. “I think we are playing faster, the group of five is playing better, I think we are playing with more structure, our transition game is getting better each night. I just think we’re playing more full 60s.”

Medicine Hat will be in action all weekend starting Friday evening when they head to Red Deer to take on the Rebels.

You can hear all the action from every game on Wild 94.5 with voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli.
