Tigers make it two in a row for the first time this season

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers won their second game in a row Wednesday night, 6-1 over the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Since the beginning of the season, the Tabbies have not been able to string multiple wins together until now.

The onslaught began in the first period for Medicine Hat, striking only 3:38 into the period for the opening goal. It was the second of the season for Hunter St. Martin, assisted by both Dallon Melin and Dru Krebs.

The Tigers weren’t happy with just a one-goal lead, as Brenden Lee grabbed his seventh of the year on the powerplay to make it 2-0.

Before the end of the first frame, Jake Chiasson would answer back for the Wheat Kings to make the score 2-1 heading into the middle period.

There would only be one goal scored in the second, and it would come from Lee for his second multi-goal game in a row where he has scored a total of 4 goals between the games.

Up 3-1 headed into the third period, the Tabbies were looking for a goal to put the game out of reach, and they did it 1:59 into the final frame. It was the returning forward Tomas Mrsic with the goal, after spending a couple of weeks away from the team for the U17 worlds.

Medicine Hat extended the lead by putting away two more quick goals before the four-minute mark of the period. The first of those came from the captain Owen MacNeil, and the second was scored by Washington Capitals’ prospect Dru Krebs, his first of the season.

The Tigers now sit in a tie for ninth in the Eastern Conference with the Wheat Kings and the Prince Albert Raiders.

Only out of a playoff spot by two points in the standings, increasing their win streak become all that more important.

They hit the road for Saskatoon on Thursday morning, where they will take on the Blades on Friday evening. It’s the first of back-to-back games for the Tigers, who face the Raiders on Saturday.
