Medicine Hat to do a Remembrance Day ceremony

Nov 1, 2022 | 4:19 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Legion is excited to return to its regular Remembrance Day services for the first time since 2019.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the City of Medicine Hat to host scaled-down events over the past two years.

“This year, we are so excited, we are back at the Esplanade for the memorial service at 9:30 till approximately 10:30, and then there’s a parade,” says the president of Medicine Hat’s Legion, Sheila Donner. “We form up outside the esplanade, and march over to the cenotaph, for we like to be there for 11, so we can do the silence, then remembrance,”

Donner adds that veterans who cannot walk will have a bus to pick them up from the Legion at 9 am to the Esplanade. After the ceremony is over, veterans will be bused to the cenotaph, and then back to the Legion after.
