Police seize cocaine and meth in Brooks, woman charged

Oct 27, 2022 | 1:43 PM

BROOKS, AB – Police say an alleged drug dealer in Brooks has been arrested and more than $15,000 worth of drugs have been taken off the streets.

ALERT Medicine Hat’s organized crime team made the seizure and arrest on Oct. 6, with help from Brooks RCMP and the Medicine Hat Police Service.

Police seized 11 grams of methamphetamine, 95 grams of cocaine, 23 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and 5,345 cash.

“A seizure of this size has a big impact on the local drug trade, especially in a smaller city. We can see the increase in property crime that’s tied to drug use and residents are tired of it. Arresting a suspected drug dealer in our community is a positive for everyone,” said Staff Sgt. Gordon Yetman, Brooks RCMP detachment commander.

Doris Meilleur, 52, has been charged with one count of drug trafficking, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and other drug-related charges. She is next scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 2.

ALERT says the investigation began in June 2022 in response to community concerns related to drug trafficking. Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is always anonymous.
