MEDICINE HAT, AB – After two years in modified form, the Medicine Hat College Career Expo returned today.

“After having virtual and drive-thru events for the past couple of years, we are so thrilled to welcome back on campus an array of new and returning organizations from across Western Canada,” says Shelly Drefs, career services assistant with MHC’s Career Centre.

The event consisted of almost 50 exhibitors. They represented various industries including trades, education, healthcare, finance, power engineering, agriculture, regional innovation, security, insurance and human services, as well as provincial federal agencies in search of staff.

Ben Parke, area manager of PTW Energy Services in Medicine Hat, says COVID caused them to have recruitment challenges.

“The number of people entering the trades over the last few years has dropped dramatically,” he says. “There used to be a program at the college where you would have 60 new grads every year, this year there are 14.”

Parke adds the Career Expo is a great way to raise awareness for the potential opportunities available to residents.
