Danielle Smith’s presence at grand opening event raising concerns

Questions are being raised about Danielle Smith’s presence at an event in the southern Alberta constituency where she’s running for a seat in the legislature.

Smith, who became premier and leader of the United Conservative Party earlier this month, is running in a byelection in Brooks-Medicine Hat.

She attended a grand opening event for the new Co-op Wellness Commons at Medicine Hat College yesterday.

Smith says she was only there in her role as premier, but the Opposition NDP says it is a violation of the Election Act.

The byelection is set for Nov. 8.
