B.C. Lions QB Nathan Rourke set to start against Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Oct 25, 2022 | 3:58 PM

SURREY, B.C. — Head coach Rick Campbell says he expects star quarterback Nathan Rourke to start for the B.C. Lions this week.

Rourke was a dominant force early in the season, throwing for 3,281 yards and 25 touchdowns with 10 interceptions over nine games.

The 24-year-old Canadian was sidelined by a foot injury in a 28-10 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Aug. 19.

He underwent surgery and has spent the last nine weeks rehabilitating, but will suit up Friday when the Lions (12-5) face the league-leading Blue Bombers (14-3) in Winnipeg.

B.C. is expected to get some other key pieces back for the matchup too, including receiver Lucky Whitehead, who missed the last three games with an ankle injury.

The club has also taken veteran wide receiver Bryan Burnham (broken wrist) off the six-game injured list, but he’s not expected to return to the lineup until the Lions host the Calgary Stampeders in the West Division semifinal on Nov. 6.
