MEDICINE HAT, AB – Leaders of Alberta’s two main political parties will be in our community this week.

United Conservative Party candidate Danielle Smith is running for the Brooks-Medicine Hat seat, attempting to secure a seat in the legislature after winning the party leadership earlier this month. This will be her first visit to the city since announcing her intent to run in the riding on Oct. 8.

Smith is set to meet with a community group in the city on Tuesday morning and will open a campaign office the following day.

NDP Leader Rachel Notley will meet with the same community group on Tuesday afternoon. Notley is the third heavy hitter from the party to appear in Medicine Hat to support candidate Gwendoline Dirk, following Shannon Phillips and Joe Ceci.

The Brooks-Medicine Hat byelection has been set for Nov. 8.

Alberta Party candidate Barry Morishita, The Independence Party’s Bob Blayone and Jeevan Mangat of the Wildrose Independence Party of Alberta are also running.
